It screens the dyes, finishes, and processing chemicals used to make a fabric before production, restricting or banning hazardous substances (including a full PFAS ban as of January 2026) across the entire supply chain. It certifies inputs and manufacturing, not the finished bag's durability, price, or overall sustainability — those are separate questions. What does bluesign certification actually check? Bluesign uses what it calls Input Stream Management — it screens the chemicals, dyes, and finishing agents going into a factory, before a single meter of fabric is dyed or coated.
